"Percussion for Singers" workshop

 —  —

Epiphany Space, 1763 N. Gower St., Los Angeles

Led by Felice Hernandez Schaeffer. "When I'm standing on stage and not singing, what should I do?" Our first inclination is to pick up a shaker or tambourine to keep busy. Great idea. These percussion "toys” are indeed instruments, and there is a proper way to play them. "Percussion for Singers" will show you how to make music and groove with your bandmates. When you can add something extra to make the band sound better, you add value to yourself as a pro singer. Bandleaders will take notice and appreciate it, too!

In this workshop, you will learn: How to analyze songs and tempos Recognizing when there is a need for percussion Choosing the appropriate instrument to play Basic rhythm patterns for each instrument Microphone awareness Appropriate use in rock band versus acoustic settings.

This class is specially designed for live performers interested in learning the basics of hand percussion for rock and pop bands. The class teaches very simple, yet effective techniques in playing hand percussion instruments (tambourine, shaker, cowbell, guiro, etc) .
